Change your username by encrypting it with CloakPass - Think how hard it would be to figure out a username like 2FxGDV3Ef60F. Imagine a username and password something like mSV6fLQ765Z401M2S and TFfE52aU. You can do it by simply opening a new account or changing your username using CloakPass.
Make an email account with a CloakPass encrypted word - How about an email address of tdZq5DhQ @ yahoo.com? That should keep the spam away for a little while!
Always have CloakPass available - In case you forget to take your pin drive with you, protect yourself by emailing your copy of CloakPass to yourself. Rename the file to CloakPass.exeBAK and send it to your online mailbox. Leave it there all the time. If you ever need it, you can download it and change the name back to CloakPass.exe. The program MUST be named CloakPass.exe to run. Remember or save your email password so you can get your email. Or, use the Cloaker link on this web site menu.
Keeping the same password with the Free Program - With the Free Program you don't have the Encryption keys available to change your passwords. A workaround is to periodically change your password by adding a number for the month at the start of your password before you encrypt. If your password is robert for instance, when you encrypt it with CloakPass you get 344QD5A. Now, if you just add a number for the month (1 for Jan, 2 for Feb, etc.) you get an entirely different password. Robert changed to 3 robert becomes C52LSp3. If you forget your clear text password, or just have forgotten you changed it, it is probably either the last month or the next month digit in front. Try both and one will probably work.
Making your password site specific - If you want to have a different password at each site, but you also want to use the same password you always use, here is a solution. Just add the name of the site to your password. For instance, if your password is maryjane, and you go to AOL, make your password aol maryjane. Here is what they each look like after using CloakPass ... FRR8pJzC and 34X36rIk1UVE. Couple this with the tip to add a digit for the month, and you can feel secure with all your passwords. For August your password would be 8 aol maryjane or TQ53LosMR245k.
Using special characters with the free program - The free program does not generate special characters but some web sites require them. To add a special character to your password, type the special character first and then generate your password with CloakPass. For instance, type the $ sign and then Ctl+Alt P and your password.
Making new passwords you can
remember - Using CloakPass you are not restricted to
conventional passwords. You can now use words and phrases
that you can remember much easier. You can also put blank
spaces between words. Here are some examples:
- bill and mary
- good morning
- how are you
- wazzup?
- my dog is spot
- CloakPass is neat
- myaol
- Use the first few words of your favorite song
- mybank
- insurance
- myblogsite
- asdf
- 1234
- 1password
- 2password
- 3password
- etc.
- Just encrypt your password through CloakPass and it's
safe!
Using with a Pin/Flash drive - To really protect your data, download a program such as True Crypt ( http://www.truecrypt.org/ ) and then put CloakPass on the unprotected section. Use CloakPass to make a password using the first line of your favorite song. You will get a Crypt password like VEDZPvS3CksZ/m4150MqmoRSvgydfWrF. That should keep the hackers busy for a few days!
Blackberrys and PDAs - To use a better password, generate a password using CloakPass and then save it somewhere on your device. Copy and paste it to open your secure file compartment. You can save it in an address or as an email to yourself.
The harder you make your passwords, the harder they are to crack.
